Microsoft’s Bing search engine is all set to gain a boost with the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot technology. To understand how, you have to go back to 2019, the year when Microsoft backed San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company named OpenAI, by offering it $1bn in funding.
The two then formed a multi-year partnership to design artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputing technologies on Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service. Here’s everything you need to know about the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI. And how the software will help in potentially enhancing the Bing search experience.
OpenAI’s latest creation ChatGPT chatbot is now available for free public testing. A software application, the chatbot is designed to mimic human-like conversation on the basis of user prompts and will help in responding to a large range of questions by imitating human speaking styles. This partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft is emerging to be an integration with Bing.
Some of Microsoft’s enterprise customer apps have also integrated OpenAI’s technologies. The company is working to make GPT-3 and Dall-E 2 available to enterprise consumers as part of its Azure server. Microsoft is also employing OpenAI’s cloud solution to its tools, thereby enabling users to create text, code, and imagery by employing simple instructions and training their machine-learning models.
Microsoft is also planning to update its Bing search engine to incorporate artificial intelligence from OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot which will enable users to respond to search queries with complete sentences rather than facilitating a list of links, offering Microsoft a competitive edge over Google.
Microsoft and OpenAI partnership is drawing a lot of attention in the tech community. Microsoft’s initial investment enclosed an agreement to integrate some of the significant elements of GPT in Bing. Since then, they have been collaborating to integrate GPT into Bing to enhance the user experience.
However, it is worth noting that OpenAI is aiming to charge for ChatGPT from its users in the future like a service fee will be charged to create text-generating bots. This indicates that Bing will emerge as one of the only free access points to GPT.
